About Us

Who Are We?

We are Achpat Shabbat, which translates to "Care for Shabbat" in Hebrew. We are non-profit in which we provide Shabbat dinners for those in the community who are mourning, under going some sort of treatment, and for those who are in crisis. During the first seven days of mourning, an individual  is companied with several people and food. However, on the eighth day, an individual may not know what to do with themselves, is lonely, and is no longer supplied with their needs while they are experiencing a hardship. Achpat Shabbat provides those in the community  with the hope that there will be a sense of comfort, realignment and reconnection with God after a hectic week.

Achpat Shabbat provides Shabbat dinners for those in the community who are mourning or going through a hardship, in the hopes that they will have a realignment and reconnection to God. In addition, we wanted to share the magic of Shabbat with the rest of the community.

In the spring of 2013, our mother passed away from cancer. Throughout her treatment, we were fortunate enough to be accompanied with strong networks of people and food that lasted for weeks. However, after those initial 7 days of Shiva and the few weeks after, we learned that an individual may not know what to do with themselves, needs a support system after the initial event, and needs to be comforted. When we received meals, we wanted to give back to the community, which sparked the creation of Achpat Shabbat.

What makes Achpat Shabbat so special?

Achpat Shabbat's main goal is to share the value of Shabbat.  What makes Shabbat so special and magical, is that it gives a sense of realignment to God, and a rest from the hectic week. In addition, there is no other non-profit organization that supplies families with Shabbat dinners like Achpat Shabbat does, in which makes it is so unique.
